The Optical Nanomaterial Group welcomes two new members to the team.

Dr Alfonso Nardi and Mr. Tristan Kuttner join the Optical Nanomaterial Group to work on nonlinear optics.

by Sara Gasser

Dr Alfonso Nardi is starting a postdoctoral position in the Optical Nanomaterial Group after completing his PhD in the Photonics Laboratory (Novotny) lab at ETH Zurich. Dr Nardi will enhance nonlinear optical processes in disordered materials using spatial light modulation. Disordered materials, such as synthesized lithium niobate cubes or barium titanate spheres offer advantages, such as large-scale fabrication and robustness. Dr Nardi aims to modify the spatial and phase front of the incident light to boost the efficiency of nonlinear optical processes in the disorder materials.

Mr. Tristan Kuttner is starting his PhD in the Optical Nanomaterial Group. Mr. Kuttner completed his Masters at ETH Zurich with his project focused on superconducting quantum processors. Mr. Kuttner will be supervised by Dr Robert Chapman and his project will focus on developing quantum information processors in the lithium niobate on insulator photonics platform.
